On 2nd September 2023 people from the ‘Orthodox Church of Ukraine’ seized the Saint Nicholas Church belonging to the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the city of Shpola in the Cherkasy region, reports the Soyuz pravoslavnykh zhurnalistov Telegram channel.

“People from the ‘OCU’ have seized the Saint Nicholas Church in the city of Shpola. Armed with hammers, sledgehammers and angle grinders, the raiders broke the entrance gates and the side entrance to the sanctuary,” it reports.

A video clip published on social media shows how the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church were unable to get into the courtyard of their own church, which had been barricaded. The parishioners made a statement the police on the illegal actions of the schismatics.
